Michaël van de Poppe: Bitcoin Price Possibly Nearing the Bottom
The Bitcoin price is currently around $64.300. a slight increase of 0.3% in the past 24 hours. Analyst Michaël van de Poppe sees positive signals in the current market structure. According to him, Bitcoin is holding above the 200-week moving average and a further major decline seems increasingly unlikely. He also shares openness about his personal portfolio, which is deep in the red, but emphasises that this is separate from his professional fund.
Bitcoin is available at OKX and Bybit.
200-week MA holds and that is a good sign
On the weekly chart, Van de Poppe sees that Bitcoin is closing above the 200-week moving average once again. That level has been an important technical support for years. He previously identified this level as a possible buying opportunity.
What stands out to him is that the market dropped sharply in a short period over the past few weeks, but then did not decline further. Instead, Bitcoin picked up the earlier lows and then climbed back above previously lost support levels. According to Van de Poppe, this pattern is not typical of a market heading towards $30.000 or $40.000, He argues that the likelihood is actually growing that we are already relatively close to the bottom. Earlier, Galaxy analysed a possible bottom around $40.000 to $46.000, but that estimate seems less realistic based on the current price action.
Personal portfolio deep in the red, but fund performs well
Alongside his market analysis, Van de Poppe also clarifies his own financial situation. His personal portfolio is about 55% down compared to his initial investment. That sounds significant, but he distinguishes between his private investments and the fund he manages for external investors. That fund is actually doing well and has outperformed Bitcoin by 45% over the past year.
The difference lies in the approach. Personally, he takes more risk and tries to time tops and bottoms with altcoins. For external investors, he follows a different, more cautious strategy. He advises not to sell altcoin positions now, because the market may be entering a bottoming phase. Those who sell now may be selling at the lowest point. Not all altcoins will survive, but a selection of them, according to him, still has significant upside potential. Other analysts are also looking more positively at the market: Standard Chartered states that the crypto winter is over and expects a Bitcoin price heading towards $100.000,
