Riot Platforms moves 500 Bitcoin to NYDIG ahead of potential sale
Riot Platforms, the second largest Bitcoin miner in the world, is moving another large amount of Bitcoin to custodian NYDIG. It concerns 500 BTC worth approximately $30.72 million, and the transfer gives the impression that the Nasdaq-listed company wants to sell part of its Bitcoin reserves.
Bitcoin is available at OKX and Bybit.
Transfer raises questions about sales plans
According to data from Arkham Intelligence, Riot Platforms is executing the transfer of 500 BTC to NYDIG Custody. NYDIG is a well-known custodian and financial services provider for institutional parties in the crypto sector. The fact that Riot is sending its coins to this party suggests that the company is preparing for a sale of part of its Bitcoin holdings.
WuBlockchain reports, based on the Arkham data, that the transfer took place about 11 hours ago. At the time of writing, the Bitcoin price is around $61K, an increase of 1.9% in the past 24 hours. Whether the potential sale will have an impact on the market remains to be seen, but institutional sales of this magnitude are usually closely monitored by the market.
Riot not the only one moving Bitcoin
Riot Platforms is not the only company actively moving Bitcoin. For instance, Metaplanet buys no less than 2,823 Bitcoin for $221 million in the second quarter of 2026, while a Korean company sells 88 Bitcoin to repay debts. This shows that large players are actively adjusting their Bitcoin strategy to market conditions.
Riot Platforms, as the second largest Bitcoin miner, is an important player in the Bitcoin mining sector. The company is listed on the Nasdaq and holds a significant amount of Bitcoin on its balance sheet. Whether the transfer to NYDIG actually results in a sale has not yet been officially confirmed by the company itself. Investors and analysts are closely monitoring the situation, partly in light of the recent movements in the Bitcoin market.
